A blue giant with no blue ocean
HD 189733 b is a Jupiter-sized gas giant. Its blue visible colour belongs to its atmosphere, not an ocean or an Earth-like surface. It travels around its host star in roughly 2.2 days.

A hot gas giant with a measured deep-blue visible colour, a short orbit and an atmosphere that deserves its own weather warning.

Values are rounded from published catalogue measurements. Sky coordinates identify the host system, not a resolved planetary surface.
HD 189733 b is a Jupiter-sized gas giant. Its blue visible colour belongs to its atmosphere, not an ocean or an Earth-like surface. It travels around its host star in roughly 2.2 days.
The system lies in Vulpecula, about 64 light-years away. The planet orbits the main star, HD 189733 A; a stellar companion is a different object. The gift keeps the planet’s scientific designation visible alongside your ceremonial name.
Hubble measurements followed the system’s visible light as the planet passed behind its star. The change revealed the planet’s reflected colour. Silicate particles are one proposed explanation for the blue light; the detailed cloud chemistry is not a resolved photograph.
The artwork interprets the measured colour as a vast cobalt atmosphere with moving bands and powerful illumination. Individual storm shapes and band patterns are creative reconstruction. We do not depict continents, seas or a habitable blue world.
The NASA catalogue records a 2005 radial-velocity discovery. Because the planet also transits its star, astronomers can study changes in light during passages in front of and behind the star, gaining clues about the atmosphere.
A personalised exoplanet gift pairs your chosen title and custom text with real information about this unusual gas giant. Printed editions celebrate the idea of a world with your name on it, without asking astronomers to update their records.
